Objectives

   The purpose of this course is to provide students, faculty, and guests with up-to-date information on a wide rang of topics related to the science and practice of health psychology and behavioral medicine. Topics will cover research methods and findings, assessment and treatment issues, and professional practice issues, including ethics, self-care, and cultural awareness. For students, in particular, the course serves as an opportunity to develop skills and self-confidence through active participation in discussions and debates, and by making informal presentations of planned or completed research.

Requirements

   This seminar is required for all graduate students in the clinical health psychology concentration. A passing grade will require consistent attendance (no more than two absences) and active participation in seminar activities. As a basic professional courtesy, all participants should make every effort to read materials that the speakers / coordinators have taken the time to select and distribute.

Cutural Diversity

   As described in the course objectives, presenters and discussants will be encouraged to consider the ways in which issues of race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation affect and inform research, theory and practice in clinical health psychgology. Although cultural diversity will not be addressed explicitly in each week's presentation, participants are encouraged to take an active role in integrating issues of cultural diversity into our group discussions.

Academic Misconduct

   Despite the fact that there is no conveivable way in which participants can run afoul of the standard academic codes of conduct, we are, nevertheless, obliged to warn you that all such violations will be handled in strict accord with various and sundry applicable guidelines and handboooks etcetra thereunto appertaining as per university policy.
